Nutcracker Receives Rave Reviews
December 14, 2009.  Audiences rose to their feet giving the dancers of Birmingham Ballet a standing ovation as they concluded their 2009 Nutcracker season at the BJCC. Many agreed that this holiday tradition, a Birmingham favorite, was the best yet in its 14th year.  Featured principals and soloists included Michelle Lou as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Cole Companion as the Nutcracker Prince, Sarah Paul as the Snow Queen,  Carl Dean as Drosselmeyer, Olivia Jones and Jessie Dennis sharing the role of Clara, Christian Free as Jack Frost,  Gina Maiola as the Dew Drop Fairy, Mark Milner and Elizabeth Howell in Arabian, Nicole Lou in Chinese and Sara Flemming in Marzipan.

Audience comments:
“I wanted to tell you what a lovely time I had and how impressed I was with the level of professionalism and polish your performers displayed.  It was an incredibly enjoyable experience to watch such talented young people who seemed to genuinely enjoy their art.”  A. Jernigan

“People are still telling us how much they enjoyed ‘The Nutcracker’!  It was a very meaningful part of our Christmas.”  D. and S. Burns

“My husband and I had the opportunity to see the performance this afternoon and WOW!!  The costumes, the adorable young performers, the talented older performers and all that choreography....it was all fabulous.”
