Summer 2010
The mission of Birmingham Ballet’s Summer Programs is to enrich the lives of aspiring dancers thru expert
instruction, intensive study, and performance opportunities. We are dedicated to the growth of each dancer in a nurturing atmosphere that
inspires excellence and the love of dance.
Does your child have a desire to dance - and excel? Birmingham Ballet Academy’s structured sequence of training will develop your child’s talent and guide your child towards success. Our progressive American system focuses on developing well rounded dancers with
clean ballet technique adaptable to all forms of dance and choreography. This aids our students in preparing for wherever their dreams may take them. Upper level students are trained using an accelerated curriculum that quickly
brings marked improvement. Because of this, our dancers achieve high standards of achievement at an early
age.
There is something special about the atmosphere of Birmingham Ballet Academy. It’s not unusual for people to say “Everyone here is so nice!” We pride ourselves on creating an atmosphere that is welcoming and caring. Our dancers thrive in an atmosphere that inspires the pursuit of excellence
along with supportive friendships and a healthy self-image.

The Senior Division 2010-2011 School Year begins August 16.

Track A - Classical Ballet Program
|

Students enter Track A at approximately age 8. A core curriculum is required at each level. Levels I - III provide students with a firm foundation in ballet, exposure to other dance
styles (Theater Dance, Jazz, and Tap) and inspires a life-long love of dance. Beginning with Level IV, Track A offers a more rigorous course of study for the dancer who desires to perform
regularly, pursue a professional career, a dance scholarship for college, or
simply to progress at the fastest rate possible. Students in Track A can supplement their training with Electives.

|

Track B - Enrichment Program - This program is designed for dancers age 11 and older with prior dance
training equivalent to level III. Track B allows students more choices with regard to the number and type of
classes they will study. This allows students with varied extracurricular activities to continue dancing
while pursuing other interests as well.

Our Dancers in the News
January 2010. ABT New York. Birmingham Ballet Academy students, Nicole Luo and Gina Maiola, received
acceptance to the prestigious American Ballet Theatre New York City Summer
Intensive. Acceptance into the New York intensive is an honor ABT reserves for only a
select group of top students chosen from nationwide auditions.
January 2010. Summer Intensive Acceptances. Birmingham Ballet Academy students triumphed at prominent summer intensive
auditions. So far this season, dancers have received the following acceptances:
Orlando Ballet - Jessie Dennis, Sarah Fleming, Olivia Jones, Nicole Luo, Gina Maiola. North Carolina School of the Arts - Jessie Dennis, Olivia Jones. American Ballet Theatre across the country- Jessie Dennis, Sarah Fleming, Olivia Jones, Nicole Luo,
Gina Maiola, Hope Sorge. Metropolitan Ballet Theatre - Jessie Dennis, Oliva Jones.
December 2009. College News. Birmingham Ballet Academy’s graduating seniors have begun receiveing college acceptances. Zack Bencomo and Sarah Paul have been accepted to University of Alabama in
Tuscaloosa as dance majors. Sarah Paul has been accepted to Tulane University and was offered a full merit
scholarship to University of Alabama. Michelle Luo has been accepted to Yale University, Princeton, and Harvard.
