Emily Loftiss moved to New York after finishing her bachelor's degree in Choreography and Performance and minoring in Theater from the University of Alabama. She has been working as a professional dancer, singer,choreographer and model while living in New York City . Emily participated in the  workshop for "Leap of Faith," directed by Oscar winner Taylor Hackford and choreographed by Tony Award Winner Rob Ashford. The show is set to debut in San Francisco in early 2009 and bound for Broadway the same year.

Emily has spent much of the past year on the Broadway First National Tour of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels under the direction of Tony winners Jack O'Brien and Jerry Mitchell. Her duties on tour included Assistant Dance Captain, Swing and understudy of Jolene Oakes. Additionally, Emily just finished her second season with Radio City Christmas Spectaular where she was a Rockette.

While working at theaters across the country, Ms. Loftiss' favorite shows include:CATS (Bombalurina) at Maine State Music Theater in Brusnwick, Maine and Carousel Dinner Theater in Akron,Ohio, Consuelo in WEST SIDE STORY at Pioneer Theater in Salt Lake, Utah and Conchita Alvarez in COPPACABANA at Mill Mountain Theater in Roanoke, VA.

Emily's choreography work includes preliminary and state level talent in the Miss America Program. She has also received national recognition for her solo choreography, winning the Best Overall at Panoply Competition. Emily has taught all across America ranging from pre-k to college level  students. She has judged several competitions nationally and internationally.

On television, she has twice appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman has a featured dancer, CBS's Vh1 Fashion Rocks with Nelly and Pharrel, CMT Top 20 Countdown, and was a Quarter finalist on MTV's WADE ROBSON PROJECT. She has danced on network commercials, and appeared in print work (including Vogue and Southern Living) and various industrials.

Deirdre Carberry  was born in Manhasset, NY, Ms. Carberry danced with the American Ballet Theatre for 12 years, and remains the youngest member to have been accepted into the company at the age of 14. She was the youngest company member to have performed solo and principal roles. Ms. Carberry received her early dance training at the American Ballet Theatre School, Miami Conservatory, David Howard & Elena Tchernichova. She was accepted by the School of American Ballet (Official school of the New York City Ballet) on scholarship, she also attended the Harkness House Ballet & David Howard Studio on scholarship. At the First U.S. International Ballet Competition held in Jackson, Mississippi, Ms. Carberry was the youngest competitor and won a silver medal, in a year in which a gold medal was not awarded. After her 12 years dancing with ABT under the Artistic Direction of Mikhail Baryshnikov, she was also a principal dancer with the Atlanta Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Ballet Memphis, and the Miami City Ballet.

While with the American Ballet Theatre, Twyla Tharp cast her as the leading ballerina in a new ballet she choreographed called The Little Ballet partnered by Baryshnikov. She then debuted as Kitri in Baryshnikov’s Don Quixote partnered by Kevin McKenzie (currently ABT Artistic Director) and then partnered by Patrick Bissel. Fernando Bujones invited her to dance the Sugar Plum Fairy opposite him in Suny Purchase, NY.
Ms. Carberry has appeared in several PBS. Great Performances programs for television & video: Baryshnikov Dances Balanchine, Baryshnikov Dances Sinatra and More with the ABT, in both her partner was Mr. Baryshnikov. She is also featured in several Dance in America television programs & videos: ABT at the Met, ABT in San Francisco.  The following seasons she demonstrated a quality of technique, style, presence and artistic interpretation that inspired ABT to promote her to increasingly important and prominent roles. Some of her other stellar partners have been: Wes Chapman (currently Artistic Director of ABT 2), Robert LaFosse, Johan Renvall, Robert Hill, and Ross Stretton.  She has toured three times with Baryshnikov & Company, toured with Alexander Godunov & Stars of the American Ballet, she has danced extensively throughout the USA, Europe, Israel, Japan, Central & South America, Mexico, Denmark and Toronto.

Ms. Carberry had the great honor to have been coached by Dame Margot Fonteyn, Natalia Makarova, Fredrick Franklin, and Mr. Baryshnikov. Several works were created on her: Common Ground by Toni Pimble, Carmen by Nigel Burgione, Elements by Dennis Poole, Rigaudon By Clark Tippet, Taming of the Shrew and Diane Corbin Bruning contemporary work.

While still performing she had taught at: Atlanta Ballet School, Cincinnati Ballet School, and the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive, master classes for Emory University in Atlanta, The Washington Ballet School, and numerous workshops throughout the USA & Europe.  Ms. Carberry was the ballet teacher & judge for American Idols Paula Abdul Company Dance Conventions & Competition.  This included being televised on ESPN from Disney Florida. Ms. Carberry was also a judge for the Star Search Finals in Atlanta.  She has been a ballet mistress for the Columbia City Ballet and ballet instructor for the school. Some of the ballets she has staged on students include Cinderella, Don Quixote, La Slyphide, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Paquita and Swan Lake. As part of her workshops she has included educating the students in stage makeup & nutrition awareness.

Most recently Ms. Carberry was a guest instructor for several months at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham.  She will also be part of the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive in Detroit for 2008.

Performing Arts Camp

Explore the performing arts with Radio City Rockette and Broadway star, Emily Loftiss.  Stretch your imagination, expand your talents and try something new.  The weeklong camp includes instruction in drama, ballet, tap, musical theatre, jazz and more!  The curriculum is based on age appropriate lesson plans so that each child will have an enriching experience.  Performing Arts Camp concludes with a mini-performance presented by the campers for family and friends.

Young Ballerina Camp
Does your child dream of becoming a prima ballerina? Would she love to be a dancing princess? Young Ballerina Camp is designed especially for budding stars with big dreams. This camp offers daily dance instruction coupled with a creative exploration of classic ballet stories.  Students may attend all sessions!

For Ages 3 - 4
Session I: June 23-27, 2008 9:30am-10:15am
Session II: July 14-18, 2008: 5:30pm-6: 15pm
Session III: August 11-15, 2008: 1:30pm-2: 15pm
Camp Fee: $75 per session.


Summer Ballet Intensive
Featuring instruction from Master Teachers as well as Birmingham Ballet faculty, this program includes morning classes of ballet technique, pointe and variations, character dance and partnering.  Afternoon sessions are dedicated to repertory classes, jazz, choreography and more.  The week will conclude with a performance for family and friends.

For Beginner through Advanced Dancers Ages 8 - 22

Full Day: Mon. - Fri.  9:30am - 4: 30pm;  Half Day: Mon. - Fri. 9:30 - 12:30
Program Fee:  $400 full day (ages 11-22)

Evening Classes
Birmingham Ballet Academy, the official school of the Birmingham Ballet, hosts summer classes for area-wide intermediate through advanced dancers.  Emily Loftiss is amoung the exciting guest teachers offering master classes in various dance disciplines.  Dancers may attend one or more sessions.  Class placement is based on technical ability.  Each session offers daily ballet technique followed by pointe, jazz, or dance conditioning.
