Young Dancer Workshop  and Pre-Professional & Professional Residency Summer Intensive  
BIRMINGHAM BALLET FACULTY is an impressive group of dedicated teachers lead by Birmingham Ballet’s Director Cindy Free and Academy Director Amanda Limbaugh.  The Birmingham Ballet curriculum is a progressive American system focusing on developing well rounded dancers with a clean ballet technique adaptable to all forms of dance and choreography.  Upper level students are trained using an accelerated curriculum that quickly brings marked improvement.

Summer Guest Faculty....................................
ALFONSO FIGUEROA is a veteran of over 30 highly successful years in the field of professional dance. He has been a featured principal dancer, teacher, choreographer, and director with several of the major American Dance Companies including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Elliot Feld and Boston Ballet.  Figueroa has received numerous accolades and awards for his choreography which will be the cornerstone of the repertoire of the Birmingham Ballet Professional Repertory Dance Company.

JANET MORAN performed with the New York City Ballet as a prodigy of George Balanchine.   Additionally, she performed as a featured principal dancer with Boston Ballet, Elliot Feld, and the original Birmingham Ballet.    She brings a wealth of secrets of exceptional technique, learned first hand from Balanchine, Richard Thomas, and other renowned American Masters, to her students in a unparalleled expert instruction.

PRE-PROFESSIONAL & PROFESSIONAL RESIDENCY INTENSIVE
The Pre-professional and Professional Residency Intensive  is designed to give serious dancers at the upper intermediate, advanced and professional levels an opportunity to improve their skills and gain strength thru individualized training and coaching.  Acceptance is limited to 20 participants at each level.  Classes run Monday - Saturday with daily instruction in classical ballet technique followed by classes in pointe, pas de deux, and jazz,  as well as rehearsals.  Additional classes may include variations, dance conditioning, contemporary dance  and dance kinesiology.  Advanced pre-professionals will be given opportunity to participate in classes and rehearsals as apprentice trainees and apprentices with professionals from Birmingham Ballet’s newly forming professional company that will be in residence during the intensive. The two week intensive will conclude with a performance by the workshop participants including them in a preview performance of Birmingham Ballet’s Professional Repertory Dance Company.
Ages 11 & Up Upper Intermediate - Professional
Session Dates: June 14 - 26
Tuition: $700 Upper Intermediate, $750 Advanced, $800 Trainee/Apprentice
How to Apply:  Audition fee: $15. Those unable to attend the Jan. 16 audition should contact the BBA office (205) 979-9492 regarding alternative evaluation procedures.  Limited scholarships will be available.

About the Birmingham Ballet Professional Repertory Dance Company...
The newly forming Birmingham Ballet Professional Repertory Dance Company is a professional ensemble of dancers. This new division of Birmingham Ballet was established by Director, Cindy Free to present a diverse dance repertoire at the highest level and to provide a bridge for dancers from pre-professional dance to professional dance.  Plans for the company include a cornerstone repertoire of the restaging of approximately 20 works by Alfonso Figueroa, who as the director of the original Birmingham Ballet,  established the first professional ballet company in Birmingham.  In addition, there will be new works by Free along with traditional classical repertoire.  The 2010 Professional Residency Summer Intensive will culminate in one of several preview performances prior to the anticipated premiere of the company in 2011.   Inquiries regarding company positions, apprenticeships,  and trainee apprenticeships should be directed towards to Director, Cindy Free at cindy@birminghamballet.com.

YOUNG DANCER WORKSHOP
Young Dancers, ages 6 - 11, thrive in a professional, yet nurturing environment.  To ensure personalized instruction, acceptance is limited to 15 participants at each of the three workshop levels.  The Young Dancer Workshop will focus on building a solid foundation in ballet technique with additional instruction in jazz, theater dance, character, pre-pointe and choreography.  Additional workshops in ballet etiquette, ballet terminology and dance history will be offered. Outstanding instruction will be provided by Birmingham Ballet Faculty, BBA alumni, and guest teachers.  Classes will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday.  All dancers will participate in a culminating performance.
Ages 6 - 11, Beginner - Intermediate
Session Dates : July 12 - 23
Tuition:  $400
How to Apply:   Audition fee: $15. Those unable to attend the Jan. 16 audition should contact the BBA Administrative Office (205) 979-9492 to schedule an alternative evaluation.  

SUMMER EVENING CLASSES
Summer Evening Classes are designed for intermediate thru advanced students to continue their training and stay in shape.  Classes are held Monday - Thursday and include daily ballet technique followed by pointe class, jazz, or special studies in jumps and turns.  Students may register for one or more weeks.  Placement is based on technical ability.  
Ages 11 & Up,  Intermediate - Advanced
Session One:    July 12 - 15
Session Two:    July 19 - 22
Session Three:  July 26 - 29
Monday - Thursday 4:30 - 7:00 p.m.
Tuition:  $150 per session
